Cheetah are a rare species that have it rough in many of the protected wildlife areas that are the typical locations for safari. This is because other predators, especially lions and spotted hyena thrive in the protected areas, and they frequently take kills away from cheetah as well as destroy cheetah cubs when the opportunity arises.
Fortunately, the Mara Region remains a cheetah stronghold and still delivers excellent cheetah viewing.
Cheetahs of the Mara
At the age of 11, Narasha was the senior most female in the region. She passed in 2015 after a tangle with lions, but entertained our guests for years with thrilling hunts. Her devotion to her young cubs over a number of litters through the years was impressive. We called one set of two brothers the Mama’s Boys because they stayed with her for two years (an extra six months beyond what is typical). She is missed.
